Artshack Brooklyn
We first met McKendree Key and Dany Rose in the fall of 2015 after they ordered a couple pairs of coveralls to wear as uniforms. Together they run a nonprofit ceramics and art studio in Brooklyn, NY called Artshack that seeks to make ceramics more accessible as an art form to people of all ages. McKendree and Dany told us how they had gotten coveralls for their students and were so excited to have finally found a good pair for themselves.
When we first visited them they were working out of Dany's house, but have since opened two different creative spaces in Brooklyn and expanded their classes to kids of all ages. Artshack offers a variety of classes, with most of their programming related to ceramics. I think our favorite has to be their "Date Night" class, if only for their description which reads: "Even if your relationship doesn't make it through the weekend, your bowl sure will!"
If you are not local to Brooklyn, you can check out their line of ceramics made by students. All of the proceeds go toward a scholarship fund that provides free ceramics classes to kids ages 5-14.
